Safeguarding Statement
Ace Community Services provides support to vulnerable adults in their own homes. Safeguarding means protecting their right to live in safety, free from any form of abuse and neglect. We believe in working in partnership with other people and organisations to prevent our service users from experiencing any form of abuse. Our service users are at the centre of everything we do, and we strive to promote positive outcomes and take into consideration our service user’s wishes and beliefs.
At Ace Community Services, we are passionate about keeping our service users safe. We achieve this by educating our staff on what safeguarding means and enabling them to understand how to raise concerns appropriately. It is key that staff know how to raise concerns appropriately and are confident in doing this. It is just as important that all service users at Ace are given the resources to enable them to understand what a safeguarding concern is and how to speak out.
We are dedicated to a safe and least restrictive environment for both our service users and staff. Through our comprehensive safeguarding policies and protocols, we strive to detect, prevent, and address any potential harm or abuse effectively. Continuous training and assistance are provided to our teams, enabling them to identify and respond promptly to safeguarding issues. We understand that safeguarding customers is a collective responsibility shared by all staff members, irrespective of their job roles.
We are committed to safeguarding our service users in accordance with the six principles of safeguarding. We recognise that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and fundamental to ensuring the safety, well-being, and dignity of the vulnerable adults we support. Therefore, we pledge to:
Empower and promote independence: We empower our service users to make their own choices and decisions, respecting their autonomy and promoting their independence while providing necessary support.
Prevention: We are proactive in identifying and mitigating potential risks to safeguard against abuse and neglect. Through risk assessments and tailored support plans, we work to prevent harm before it occurs.
Proportionality: We ensure that our safeguarding measures are proportionate to the level of risk, respecting the individual needs and circumstances of each service user. We avoid overreactions and prioritise the least restrictive interventions.
Protection: We maintain a vigilant stance against any form of abuse or neglect, taking swift and decisive action to protect our service users from harm. We provide a safe environment where concerns are taken seriously and addressed promptly.
Partnership: We foster collaborative relationships with other agencies, professionals, and families to promote the holistic well-being of our service users. By working together, we share information, coordinate responses, and enhance safeguarding outcomes.
Accountability: We uphold accountability at all levels of our organisation. Our staff are trained to recognise and respond to safeguarding concerns appropriately, and we ensure transparency and accountability in our safeguarding processes.
Modern Day Slavery Statement
Safe Recruitment:
Ace’s commitment to prevent modern-day slavery begins with our exhaustive recruitment process. We ensure that people we appoint from overseas are suitable to work with adults or children who use care services.
This is done by conducting pre-employment checks which includes: Employees UK address, Right to Work in the UK, DBS Check, Employment History, suitability for the role and References.
Ace Community Services also adheres to the Home Office guidance on “sponsoring a Worker or Temporary Worker or sponsoring a Student”. This guidance lists all the documents we must have on record in order to fulfil our sponsorship duties.
Ace Community Services also provides clear and accurate information to potential recruits about their rights, working conditions, and pay, and ensures that they have access to legal advice and support.
When employing staff directly from overseas Ace Community Services will only use staff provided by third-party organisations that are either registered with the regulator or who can confirm that the staff being supplied are free to work in the UK and meet all the requirements for the role being provided for.
Policies and Training:
Ace Community Services have appropriate policies in place that underpin our commitment to ensure that there is no modern slavery. We continuously review and update all our policies.
Ace Community Services safeguarding policy includes information about modern slavery and human trafficking, and clearly outline the role and responsibilities of all staff.
Safeguarding training is mandatory for all staff and includes information on modern-day slavery in order to promote the knowledge such as being aware of the indicators of modern slavery and understanding of escalating concerns.
Staff are also encouraged to undertake specific Modern Slavery eLearning training.
Staff are encouraged to raise any concerns that they might have to either their Supervisor, Well-Being lead or the Management Team. We have a Whistleblowing policy which details how staff can raise any concerns that they may have confidentially if they are concerned about raising the matter via their manager.
Staff will be advised that if they are subject to slavery or human trafficking, if they are aware of any individual that may be subject to slavery, they must inform the Registered Manager of Caprani Care or the police.
Pastoral Care:
Ace Community Services wants to ensure that any staff recruited from overseas are settled in nicely in the UK and in their new role. Ace Community Services achieves this through various ways:
- Information pack prior to arrival in the UK providing information about what to bring, clothing needed, adaptors etc.
- A virtual meeting between existing and new staff members to build connections.
- Provide staff with useful resources on their rights as a care worker in the UK and important contacts they would need if they had any concerns.
- A WhatsApp group that allows relationships to build between new recruits and the local team in advance of arrival and once over here
- A local guide to help people to navigate the local area and know what to expect e.g. how to register with a GP, what things cost, where the local shops are etc
- Helping with initial costs.
- A local tour to familiarise with the area – local shops, green spaces, places of worship, transport links etc.
- Secure short-term accommodation.
- Support to find longer-term accommodation.
- A buddying scheme between local staff and new overseas recruits.
- Information about local community networks
Future:
Over the course of the next financial year, we will continue to review our procedures to help us identify, prevent, and mitigate any risks of modern slavery or human trafficking with new and existing suppliers.
